What to Sell Before You Have a Course

You don’t need a course to start sharing what you know. Here are four smaller offers you can make first, and how they shape the course you’ll build later.
A course is a big build. Videos, lessons, worksheets, a sales page, and a way to take payment. It’s no wonder so many people with a real message keep putting it off.
Here’s the good news: you don’t have to start there. Most people are better off starting smaller.
Why start small
A smaller offer does three things a course can’t do yet:
It’s ready sooner. You can finish it in weeks, not months.
It shows you what people want. The questions people ask and the places they get stuck become your course outline later.
It gives people a way to go deeper with you now. Readers and listeners who want more don’t have to wait.
Four things you can offer before a course
- A short guide
Pick one question people ask you often and answer it well in 10 to 20 pages. A speaker could turn her most-requested talk into a guide. An author could write a companion guide for one chapter of her book.
- An e-book
An e-book gives you more room than a guide. It’s a good home for teaching you’ve already done, such as a blog series, a set of talks, or a devotional you’ve shared in pieces.
- A 1:1 session
If people already ask for your help directly, offer an hour of it. Sessions also teach you, in people’s own words, what they struggle with most.
- A group call
Teach one topic live on Zoom to a small group, and leave time for questions. Record it, and you have the start of your first lesson.
How to choose
You’ve already written a lot? Start with a guide or an e-book.
People keep asking for your time? Start with a session.
You love teaching live? Start with a group call.
Pick one. You can add the others later.
What you need to sell it
Even a small offer needs a few pieces:
- A page that explains what it is and who it’s for
- A way to take payment
- A way to deliver it, such as a download, a booking link, or a Zoom link
- An email that goes out after someone buys
On Huldah, all of this lives in one place. Your AI guide walks you through the sales page, the payment setup, and the email. You write the words.
When you’re ready for the course
Look back at what people asked you, where they got stuck, and what they wanted more of. That’s your course outline. You’ll build it knowing people want it.
We can’t promise how your first offer will sell. We can help you get it live and give people a clear way to buy from you.
